About me

Hi, I'm Marcelina

I specialize in typesetting and graphic design. I’m a graduate of a Master Course in Typography with 7+ years of experience working in a professional studio and freelancing. Designing and layouting complicated, multilingual publications full of charts, maps, tables and infographics is my main speciality, but I’m also passionate about logotype and brand design, highly valuing this laborious/creative work balance.

You can see some of my works in portfolio and read more about me below.

What I do

branding | charts | DTP | editorial design | ebooks | icons | infographics | interactive PDFs | layouts | logotypes | maps | patterns | pictograms | print | prepress | publications | tables | technical illustration | typesetting | visual identity | web design

Usually one of the above.

So far I have created over 30 different logotypes with presentations and produced at least 10 brandbooks. I have experience designing icons to match specific font or to be used in signage.

I was preparing a great amount of projects for a variety of media – print, web, mobile, ebooks. At this point, it is impossible for me to count all publications I have managed to set/design. I was only able to count all the languages in which the documents I have worked on were written. I used to do up to 3 complicated publications in a week. I'm very well organized, meticulous and I work well with deadlines. My work has taught me to be very patient. Sometimes it's necessary to triple check everything and even a missing comma could be a real problem. I have experience working with interior designers, architects, analysts and people of different seniority levels.

WORK EXPERIENCE

I started as a freelancer and KatoMAGAZYN was the first publication longer than 2 pages that I prepared for print. After that, I joined Foxrabbit Designers. I have participated in many different projects, sometimes doing basic work for someone else, sometimes running the whole project. I had the opportunity to work and learn from some of the best print and DTP professionals in Poland. The knowledge they shared with me is an invaluable element of my work experience. After 3 years I was asked to become an art director and a partner at the studio. My new responsibilities included taking care of the visual side of all our projects, delegating and supervising work of my teammates, managing multiple projects; each partner had an equal say in running the company.

I have worked for numerous clients, including:

Balmain | Frontex | Groupe Seb | NEPI Rockcastle | New Look | Polfa Tarchomin | Polish Agency for Enterprise Development | Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs | Polish Pharmaceutical Society | Sendzimir foundation

EDUCATION

I have a BA degree in interior design from Katowice School of Technology. During my senior year, I came upon typography and decided to explore it further.

After graduating I took a Master Course in Typography (AKT) at Cardinal Wyszyński University in Warsaw. This was a two-semester course: the first concerned typography and layout, the second creating fonts. There I learned from some of the best Polish professionals such as Łukasz Dziedzic (author of Lato, FF Clan and FF Good), Adam Twardoch, Robert Chwałowski and Robert Oleś. This was an amazing, enlightening experience and a time when I met wonderful people with a similar passion and I fell in love with typography for good.

Since graduating AKT, I have continued this fantastic journey with typography through my work, tons of thematic literature I have read over the years and workshops I attended.
